Pretty useful to understand HR's perspective when being asked the most-asked interview questions。 Written by an insider from HR world, James Reed helps us understand the "real" meaning of each question and the general tactics to face those questions in your own way (not a specified, canned answer)。It's unnecessary to read the whole book。 Just read the first half which covers the top asked questions to get the real things that the interviewers are looking for and you're good to go。 Pretty useful to understand HR's perspective when being asked the most-asked interview questions。 Written by an insider from HR world, James Reed helps us understand the "real" meaning of each question and the general tactics to face those questions in your own way (not a specified, canned answer)。It's unnecessary to read the whole book。 Just read the first half which covers the top asked questions to get the real things that the interviewers are looking for and you're good to go。 。。。more

Well written logical book on how to approach interview questions with some example answers。 Properly the best book on the market in my opinion and you get a sense that the author has vast experience with the interview process from both sides。

Interviewing seems like a thing only for corporate jobs - if you follow this book。 It has valuable advice for those who feel like they never present their best side during interviews But it makes me feel as this is more a “play the player” type of approach。 I liked the part where each question is presented from the interviewers perspective and what they want to hear/learn。

This book has definitely removed some of the fear associated with having to go through the job application and interview process (for the first time in about 20 years for me!)。 Understanding the perspective of the interviewer is key。 I'll be sharing these words of wisdom with my kids in a few years' time。 This book has definitely removed some of the fear associated with having to go through the job application and interview process (for the first time in about 20 years for me!)。 Understanding the perspective of the interviewer is key。 I'll be sharing these words of wisdom with my kids in a few years' time。 。。。more

Great book with a lot of useful information

Probably the best book you could read in preparation for an interview。 My biggest take-away from this book is that the role of a job in a company is to solve that company's problem in a specified area。 In the interview you are essentially proving to the hiring manager how you can solve their problem。 Probably the best book you could read in preparation for an interview。 My biggest take-away from this book is that the role of a job in a company is to solve that company's problem in a specified area。 In the interview you are essentially proving to the hiring manager how you can solve their problem。 。。。more

I didn't read it cover to cover, but read it more than once in bits and pieces。 It's essential for helping you through the interview process if you're as bad at it as I am。 I didn't read it cover to cover, but read it more than once in bits and pieces。 It's essential for helping you through the interview process if you're as bad at it as I am。 。。。more

A practical little read, especially considering my current stage of life! The top-level insights in this book can basically be boiled down to "Ask not what the company can do for you, but tell what you can do for the company。" (Or, in plainer language: "Remember that the interview process isn't really about you, it's about finding someone who can do the work in the way the company wants the work done。") A great perspective, to be sure, but the true excellence of this book is in the detailed desc A practical little read, especially considering my current stage of life! I like how the book focuses on the job fulfillment rather than superficial benefits of the job。 Some of the advice sounds a bit cliche to me。 Other than that, it's a good read for anyone who wishes to gain a constructive approach to a job hunt。 I like how the book focuses on the job fulfillment rather than superficial benefits of the job。 Some of the advice sounds a bit cliche to me。 Other than that, it's a good read for anyone who wishes to gain a constructive approach to a job hunt。 。。。more

I read this book to prepare for an interview, which I have tomorrow, and I found Reed's tips rather useful。 He certainly provides some wise advice on how to approach the "what is your greatest weakness?" question。 My only complaint is there is no discussion on how to handle illegal questions。 Nevertheless, this book is a fast-read with plenty of practical advice。 Recommended。 I read this book to prepare for an interview, which I have tomorrow, and I found Reed's tips rather useful。 He certainly provides some wise advice on how to approach the "what is your greatest weakness?" question。 My only complaint is there is no discussion on how to handle illegal questions。 Nevertheless, this book is a fast-read with plenty of practical advice。 Recommended。 。。。more

I would totally recommend this for anyone who is anxious going into an interview。 All the questions are broken down with examples。 This made me so much more prepared going into an interview because I knew exactly how to answer all of their questions。 Highly recommend to job seekers。

Insightful book which should be read not only by those preparing for interviews - great way to focus on the right mindset - but also by those conducting interviews。 It is packed with meaningful questions and suggestions which should help any HR Manager / interviewer conduct a well structured and thoughtful meeting to bring out the best in a candidate。

So, there were 2 books on NetGalley that followed a similar theme。 One was this and the other was tCracking the Code to a Successful Interview: 15 Insider Secrets from a Top-Level Recruiter。 I thought it'd be great to look over both and offer a comparison。 By far, this was the better book。 It offered the questions, advice, samples and broke it down。 The other lacked impact and was more droll。 I know there are folks out there that think interviewing is common sense -- and, in many ways, it is -- So, there were 2 books on NetGalley that followed a similar theme。 One was this and the other was tCracking the Code to a Successful Interview: 15 Insider Secrets from a Top-Level Recruiter。 I thought it'd be great to look over both and offer a comparison。 By far, this was the better book。 It offered the questions, advice, samples and broke it down。 The other lacked impact and was more droll。 I know there are folks out there that think interviewing is common sense -- and, in many ways, it is -- but sometimes we struggle with succinct phrasing to help us articulate what we'd like to get across。 I think James Reed's book does a better job of supporting job seekers here than a few other books in the market, such as tCracking the Code to a Successful Interview: 15 Insider Secrets from a Top-Level Recruiter。 。。。more

I really liked the way this book started off with variations of the top 15 personal/character kind of questions that you may face in an interview。 It analyzed the questions, spoke about what the interviewer is really after, gave sample answers, and even mentioned key phrases, verbs, and adjectives to help describe the concept in some cases。 Honestly, I really didn't cover much more than the first 100 pages only because that was the most general part。 I didn't think I would benefit too much from I really liked the way this book started off with variations of the top 15 personal/character kind of questions that you may face in an interview。 It analyzed the questions, spoke about what the interviewer is really after, gave sample answers, and even mentioned key phrases, verbs, and adjectives to help describe the concept in some cases。 Honestly, I really didn't cover much more than the first 100 pages only because that was the most general part。 I didn't think I would benefit too much from the rest unless it was questions specific to library science, such as situational questions about customer service, or what do I see as the future of reference collections/physical collections/staffing level needs/the role of libraries in the community/school room/online/embedded, etc。 And of course, the dreaded question about outreach。But if you're grappling with how to answer "what are your weaknesses? Tell me about yourself。 Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" then this is the book for you! I thought it was a great tool to skim, take notes, and return to the library。 。。。more
